NUCLEAR DECOM MODIFIED ROBOT

  • The requirement was to create a small foot print. 
  • Very mobile and very powerful unit 
  • Able to with stand high radiation doses, able to work where human life would be at risk.
  • No engineering files was available so we did things the hard way. There was no 3D scanner in those days, but I have one now.
  • This would allow us to return to base and start development of the parts needed.
  • It would be a special purpose machine as well as the arms.

    NUCLEAR DECOM ROV DEEP SEA Two arm anti collision development

    Loughborough University and Hydro-Lek collaboration HD7 arms with feedback

     Loughborough University  was tasked to provide a Nuclear decommission solution.  This was all new technology. They had no mechanical arms suitable or available to them. Time to develop their own would take to long.  They reached out to industry and Hydro-Lek responded. I had been working on a new version arm for ROV's to compete with the likes of Schilling. The Hydro-Lek version was not complete or had positional feedback.


    It was decided and agreed they would supply the Base unit and the software control and we would finish the arm and add position feed back.

      MANIPULATOR HYDRAULIC DEEP SEA HD7 ROV ARM, Lift 170 KG at full reach

      Twin Arm

      The software was developed by Loughborough University and we completed the arms.  Each arm at full reach is able to lift 170Kg, so its not a toy.
